Objective

To promote the adoption of concrete mechanisms to increase women’s political representation

Program Description

This program will support the adoption of concrete mechanisms to improve women’s representation in formal political institutions such as legislatures (as distinct from broader issues of women’s political participation). In order to achieve this goal, the program will support a regional network of civil society organizations (CSOs) committed to improving women’s political representation by: (1) conducting research on the challenges faced by women in achieving greater political representation in each country, (2) establishing and/or strengthening women’s political caucuses, (3) providing training to women leaders, (4) engaging political parties to advocate for a minimum target of 30 percent women’s political representation, (5) and encouraging reforms to the legal framework for elections that increase women’s political representation.
